Sample Weight: 0.5 g

Summary

Carbonate carbon (inorganic carbon) in geologic materials is determined as carbon dioxide by combustion. The sample is treated with dilute perchloric acid to release inorganic carbon as CO2 in a closed system. The CO2 can then be measured by infrared detection.

The reporting limit range for Carbonate Carbon is 0.01% to 14%.

Analytical Performance

Data will be deemed acceptable if recovery of Carbonate Carbon is ±15% at five times the Lower Limit of Determination (LOD) and the calculated Relative Standard Deviation (RSD) of duplicate samples is no greater than 15%.
