GMEG - Mineral and Environmental Resources
Mineral Systems of Siberia, Mongolia, Northeastern China, South Korea, and Japan (Northeast Asia) planned products
A Collaborative Project by Russian Academy of Sciences,
Mongolian Academy of Sciences, Changchun University of Earth Sciences,
the Geological Survey of Japan, and the U.S. Geological Survey
Project status is complete. Please check the project list for currently active projects
Deliverables:
- Detailed mineral resource tables and location maps with data on about 2,000 lode deposits and several hundred placer districts for the project area (cover figure), based on original, cited references
- Regional terrane and overlap-assemblage/geodynamics maps and detailed explanations that will provide the geologic setting for mineral deposits and metallogenic belts
- Metallogenic-belt maps and interpretations
- Metallogenic/tectonic interpretations, including a four-dimensional time-space model depicting the crustal origin and evolution of mineral deposits. Publication will be staged with rapid preliminary publication of the new and important tabular resource data and maps to customers. Publications will be released in both paper (USGS publications and scientific journals), digital (floppy disk, CD-ROM, GIS (ARC-View), and Internet/Web formats. The various resource tables, maps, and explanatory materials will be authored by the international collaborators with USGS project members serving as co-editors, and possibly as co-authors on some interpretative articles.
- Publish the USGS version of a series of seven Mineral Deposit and Metallogenic Belt Maps of the Russian Far East, Alaska, and the Canadian Cordillera (2 sheets, 5 M scale; 5 sheets, 10 M scale) (publication awaiting establishment of USGS on-demand ordering center)
- Revise after technical review an Open-File Report and USGS Professional Paper on the Metallogenesis the Russian Far East, Alaska, and the Canadian Cordillera (paper and floppy disk formats)
- Revise after technical review a USGS Professional Paper on the Metallogenesis and Tectonics of the Russian Southeast, Russian Northeast, Alaska, and the Canadian Cordillera
- Submit for technical review an article on the Phanerozoic Tectonic Reconstruction of the Circum-North Pacific for Journal of Geophysical Research
- Publish the first one-third of mineral resource data, maps, and interpretative materials for project area for preliminary publication as a series of USGS Open-File Reports in digital format on CD-ROM, and in digital format on the Internet/Web
- Rewrite, revise, and edit the second one-third of mineral resource data, maps, and interpretative materials for project area for preliminary publication as a series of USGS Open-File Reports in paper format, in digital format on CD-ROM, and in digital format on the Internet/Web
- With Chris Scotese (University of Texas Arlington), develop an animated tectonic and metallogenic model for the Circum-North Pacific
- Revise after technical review, an interpretative article on metallogenesis and tectonics of granitoid-hosted gold deposits of the Russian Far East and Alaska (in Russian)
- With Simon Klemperer and M. Greninger (Stanford University), submit for publication a GIS compilation of geophysical and geologic data for the Circum-North Pacific.
