<logic>All polygons are closed. Initial problems included short segments and self intersections. Line segments are a set of sequentially numbered coordinate pairs. No duplicate features exist nor duplicate points in a data string. Intersecting lines are separated into individual line segments at the point of intersection. Point data are represented by two sets of coordinate pairs, each with the same coordinate values. Tests for logical consistency were performed by running the Check Geometry tool and repaired with the Repair Geometry tool. Two stand-alone tables in the database report as such.</logic>
<complete>This data set is 95% complete. Some attribution is missing in the LaMineSites feature dataset. Specifically, USGS quadrangle names for the Amite River mine area and mine pit polygons were not reported, as are estimates of the length of floodplain impacted by the same mine sites and pits. The Amite River sites and pits were compiled for a slightly different project, and then imported into this database in order to provide a more complete coverage of mining activities in Louisiana.</complete>

<horizpar>The horizontal accuracy of the data is in accordance with National Mapping Accuray Standards for data compiled at 1:24000, which represents a possible error of +/- 40 for well-defined man-made features. The DOQQS used as base maps are well within this standard. However, no RMSE report(s) are available on photo orthorecitification.</horizpar>

<procstep>
<procdesc>All feature classes within each feature data set were orinally created as ARC/INFO coverages. Topological consistency was checked through ARC/INFO commands BUILD and CLEAN. Channel and channel features were manuallly digitized over 1: 24000 and 1: 62500 scale USGS DRGs, 1:40000 scale (1m pixel resoluion) DOQQs and historic 1955-60 FSA aerial photos (1:20000 scale) scanned at 500dpi to create a 1m pixel ground-resolution.

The 15-minute series maps were georeferecnced to using 1: 24000 scale Public Land Survey System (PLSS) grid intersections as control points in ArcGIS 8.3. A minimum of 30 ground control points (GCPs) were used producing an average root mean square error (RMSE) of 9 meters. The strms40s data were then derived from these DRGs.
The historic aerials were georefereced using a minimum of 16 GCPs in ERDAS Imagine. The RMSE is less than 1 meter for all photos. The strms50s coverages were then created from these photos, while the strms80s and strms90s coverages were created with the aid of the 1:24000 DRGs and DOQQs, respectfully. All coverages are double precision. Digitization tolerances are:

Weed: 0.5 meter.
Fuzzy: 0.5 meter.
Dangle: 5 meters
Edit: 30 meters
Nodesnap: 5 meters.

All QA/QC was performed manually, where any gross digitizing errors in channel positions or in the extent of channel features were corrected. These coverages were then converted to Personal Geodatabase feature classes. The strms40s data were not used in analyses operations due to the limited basin coverage and the horizontal accuracy of that data. Topology rules described above ensured all data remained clean. Feature class cluster tolerances are less than 0.5 meters.</procdesc>
