Eastern Mineral and Environmental Resources Science Center
The development of mineral resources requires a disturbance of the natural environment. In order to make informed decisions, land managers need scientific information on the possible nature and amount of disturbances before the extraction of mineral resources begin. This subtask will address possible affects in surface water settings.
The objective of this subtask was to understand the transport of metals in surface environments in a post-mining setting at a watershed scale. This information will assist land managers in making decisions on weighing the costs versus benefits of future mining.
